It doesn’t take long to hear the differences: standard iTunes sounds a bit boring and gray compared to BitPerfect, the latter having a much wider and deeper soundstage. The USB cable used was the excellent KingRex uArt-USB-S.

Using the basic settings, only having selected the PS Audio PWD MKII’s USB input as output in the BitPerfect’s settings, I listened carefully to iTunes with, and without BitPerfect. Switching from basic iTunes to BitPerfect I promised above to talk about sound foremost, so let’s skip to that right now! All the regular control is from iTunes, but there is a preference pane that offers 4 screens with various settings, as can be seen on the pictures below. I will however, compare BitPerfect directly with Pure Music on their sound merits alone.Īs can be seen in the above picture, BitPerfect has a minimal interface. But having said that, thus far, newcomer BitPerfect not once crashed while I used it. You can’t really compare these programs one on one because both PureMusic and Amarra offer much more functionality than BitPerfectmost important of which is FLAC playback, and, judging from the early BitPerfect reviews on the web, they could be more stable than BitPerfect. That compares nicely to BitPerfect’s 7,99 euro, doesn’t it?

Amarra is the most expensive at 178 euro for the full version while Pure Music at 113 euro is less expensive, although still far from cheap.

For Mac I have used two programs that apply a series of methods to achieve the same thing: Amarra and Pure Music.

In the case of Windows there are various routes of shortening and/or purifying the “signal path”, Kernel Streaming being the most commonly known method. I don’t know the fine details but just like Windows computers have lots of resampling and mixing going on with their kmixer, something similar happens with Macs. However, I need to say a thing or two about my earlier experiences with similar programs. You can read all about that elsewhere on the web. What are the audible differences? Being more familiar with Windows computers, I won’t pretend to know exacty what BitPerfect does behind the scenes, nor will I bore you with a complete rundown of all its functionality. Below screenshot, as well as the rest, are of the V1 software. Meanwhile, there is a v3, shown in the main image screenshot above. Please note that this review is for version 1. Retail price when purchased in 2012 approximately 7,99 euro It made for an interesting comparison to PureMusic. It does this while maintaining the ease of use that iTunes offers. And you can always switch back to iTunes if you want.BitPerfect is a very affordable Mac app that works with iTunes to enable better sound JRiver and I believe Audirvana can work with your iTunes Library - they can read and index all the music in it, so you don't (as far as I know) need to copy all your iTunes music elsewhere. If you are using JRiver, Audirvana, or any other similar third party music player, then you do not need BitPerfect - and in fact, BitPerfect will not work with them because BitPerfect works only with iTunes. It is made by a third-party developer (although it is available for purchase from the Mac App Store).īitPerfect is meant to be used in conjunction with iTunes. So if anyone can please provide more info on BitPerfect, if I need it.what circumstances is BitPerfect beneficial or not required.would greatly appreciate some pointers.īitPerfect is not made by Apple. I think my library will also be linked to my iTunes library (since I will be using a new Mac soon). When I have my new, upcoming digital music library (on JRiver Media Center), and it will be a combo of CD rips, PCM downloads (16 and 24 bit), and DSD rips/downloads, will I have any need for BitPerfect or do I just go with something like Audirvana +?
Cocina audio bitperfect software#
Is Apple's "BitPerfect" designed to be a substitute for other software like Audirvana +, Amarra (sp.), HQPlayer, etc.?
